Cut: Heb “Karath” – To make a cut

To Cut a Covenant: Heb “Karath Berith”

 

A Covenant – The strongest relationship that can ever exist between two individuals or two groups of people. Covenants stood through Generations!

 

How Covenants were Cut – Incision, Mixing of Blood, Exchange of coats/weapons, often a Covenant meal/breaking of Bread

Why Covenants were Cut – To seal a Relationship, For peace between warring groups, For mutual Protection, Business deals

Different kinds of Covenants: Salt Covenant, Milk Covenant etc

 

EXAMPLES:

Between two individuals: David and Jonathan 1 Sam 18:1-4;      2 Sam 9:1

Between God and Abraham: Gen 15: 9-18;        Gen 17:10

AT CALVARY:  THE COVENANT WAS CUT
